We see that with applicants too -- so few of them take the time to do any research about the company. What that seems to mean is that they&#039;re not willing to do the hard work. It&#039;s much easier to send a standard resume and cover letter for every open position than to tailor them individually. A well-researched cover letter is one that usually stands out.

On a much more basic note, I would add: Follow directions. How should you submit your resume? What materials should you include, and in what format? (If an applicant can&#039;t follow instructions, what does that mean about his or her ability to be an effective employee?)</description>

		<description>Great post Jeremy. Jenna just linked it, but I totally agree.  If you want to work in social media, you should already have a footprint and walk potential employers through that footprint more so than a resume.
